S-RC Cup

The S‑RC Cup is a nationwide STEM motorsport programme where students design, build, fund, and race their own RC race car across a full academic season that mirrors the same format of circuit racing.

Who are we?

The S‑RC Cup is a Radio Control (RC) motorsport championship created specifically for schools, colleges, and student groups. Open to young people aged 13–18, the programme blends engineering, innovation, teamwork, and business skills in a structure that reflects a motorsport season.

Running from September to July, teams of 3–6 students take on roles within their race teams, from engineers and designers to team principals, finance leads and media managers. Teams build an RC race car from scratch or using an S‑RC Kit Car, develop their branding, secure sponsorship, and follow structured guidance throughout the year. Race events are hosted at universities across the UK, providing authentic engineering environments and hands‑on track experience.

What do we do?

Start a Team: Schools and groups form teams of up to six students. The season begins in September with the build phase, where students construct their car, learn engineering principles, plan their sponsorship strategy, and create their team identity. From January to June, teams take part in two regional race events at partner universities, experiencing a full motorsport-style weekend with pits, paddocks, media zones, qualifying, races, and off‑track business and engineering challenges. In July, the top 15 teams compete at the National Final at Whilton Mill Kart Circuit for the S‑RC Cup Trophy and tickets to a motorsport event.

Online Education Modules: The S‑RC Cup is supported by the official S‑RC Education Platform, which brings hands‑on STEM learning into the classroom through engaging video lessons, quizzes, and practical tasks. It introduces students to engineering, business, and motorsport concepts through modules such as Engineering, Business, and Race Theory, helping them build skills in mechanics, electronics, sponsorship strategy, and racing science. Students earn official S‑RC certificates and badges as they progress, and preparing them for the full S‑RC Cup challenge with minimal teacher input.

How much does it cost?

The S‑RC Cup is free for schools and student groups to join. The only cost is approximately £200 for car-building materials, which students raise through sponsorship or fundraising as part of the challenge.

Hear from Pete Hewage, Founder & CEO of S-RC Cup

S-RC Cup is redefining how young people access motorsport – turning classrooms into race teams, and students into engineers and drivers competing in a real championship. Using high-performance RC cars, we make motorsport accessible while keeping it hands-on, high-pressure, and mirroring the sport from day one.

They can learn additional things that aren’t necessarily part of their course. Things like marketing, teamwork, communications skills – all things that we know employers really want people to be able to do – and it looks really good on their CV’s.

The Inclusion Hub, developed by Motorsport UK and Mission 44, simplifies access to motorsport opportunities for young people, educators, and underrepresented groups. It offers clear pathways into the sport through volunteering, education, career resources, and community-building opportunities.

The Inclusion Hub is available to anyone looking to find opportunities in motorsport. However, the platform is aimed at young people that are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM).

The Inclusion Hub will help Motorsport UK and its partners deliver on their mission to make motorsport more inclusive, diverse, and accessible. By providing a comprehensive digital hub, we can ensure that young people, regardless of background, have the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in motorsport.

Use the platform’s search and filter tools to explore opportunities based on location, interest, or type (e.g., clubs, volunteering, jobs, or education programmes).

The platform highlights job boards, career guides, webinars, tips, and scholarships. You can also connect with industry leaders and organisations to build your network. Additionally, the platform features extracurricular programmes that can help you build valuable skills and enhance your CV—qualities that employers in the motorsport industry highly value. These programmes include volunteering, club participation, and hands-on experience through STEM-related initiatives, all designed to give you a competitive edge in your career development.

The hub is regularly updated with new opportunities, resources, and success stories to ensure users have the latest information available.
