Begin your competitive motorsport journey with the Motorsport UK Disabled Driver Scholarship, a fully supported programme designed to give disabled drivers the opportunity to compete, develop their skills, and experience club level motorsport without financial barriers!
The Motorsport UK Disabled Driver Scholarship, delivered in partnership with Loughborough Car Club, is a national initiative providing disabled drivers with a fully funded entry into grassroots motorsport. The programme removes financial, mechanical, and accessibility barriers, creating a clear and supported pathway into competition for disabled participants. Each year, six selected drivers receive a fully funded season competing in Autosolo and Autotest events using an adapted Toyota Yaris with their local car club. All running costs, including entry fees, fuel, tyres and maintenance are covered by the club, allowing drivers to focus entirely on competition, learning and progression.
Assessment day: Assessment days take place across the country, where candidates experience Autosolo driving using fully adapted vehicles tailored to individual needs. Judges assess not only speed but development potential, control, awareness and safety, confidence progression and commitment to continuing in motorsport.
Access to adapted vehicle: Adaptations include hand-operated accelerator and brake systems, adjustable pedal and accelerator placements, multiple steering wheel configurations, enhanced seating and back support and custom control setups
Fully funded season: Drivers who enjoy the assessment day may be selected for the fully funded season and continue competing across the year with full support. The programme aims to build long-term participation, confidence and driver development, creating a pathway for disabled drivers to stay involved in the sport.
The Scholarship opens in the spring each year. Locations can vary depending on which clubs are supporting the programme that year.
How much does it cost?
The Scholarship is free, with all competition costs fully covered. Participants only need to cover their own travel expenses to and from events.
It’s been wonderful to welcome so many drivers to have a go and get involved in StreetCar as part of our Disabled Driver Scholarship day. I am sure this year’s winners will be able to enjoy motorsport closer to home at their local StreetCar club, and that’s really what this initiative is all about, promoting accessibility in our sport.
I’ve had a brilliant day today, meeting all these other people who are disabled and wheelchair users, having the opportunity to get in a car and have a go around the track – while having a load of fun doing it. It’s been fantastic.
